Friendly IT Apps — Privacy Policy

Effective: 4 November 2026  ·  Friendly IT Solutions Limited

This policy covers the mobile apps published by Friendly IT Solutions Limited. Part A applies to all of them. Part B explains, app by app, what each one stores and which services it uses. It is written to meet the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. For our website and business services, see our general privacy policy.

Part A — All our apps

A1. The short version

  • No accounts. None of our apps asks for your name, email address or phone number.
  • Your content stays on your phone. Documents, puzzles, progress and saved calculations are stored on your device. We don't run servers that store your app data, and we never receive it.
  • Google services pay for and support the apps. Our free apps show ads from Google AdMob, and some use Google Firebase to understand usage and fix crashes. These services collect some device and usage information, described below and in each app's section.
  • You have choices. Where the law requires it, you are asked before ads are personalised. Analytics and crash reporting can be turned off in each app's Settings, and some are off until you turn them on.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not build profiles about you.

A2. Services used by our apps

Each app's section in Part B says which of these it uses.

Google AdMob (ads)

To show and measure ads and prevent ad fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares with Google:

  • device and other identifiers, including the Android advertising ID and app set ID
  • your IP address, from which an approximate location (such as country or city) may be inferred
  • product interactions, such as app launches, taps and ad views
  • diagnostic information, such as app and SDK performance

Data is encrypted in transit. See Google's AdMob data disclosure and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

Google consent message (User Messaging Platform)

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and other places where the law requires it, our apps use Google's User Messaging Platform to ask for your consent before ads use your information for personalised advertising. Depending on your choice, you see personalised ads, non-personalised (limited) ads, or no ad request is made. Your choice is stored on your device. Each app's Settings has an option to review or change it where the message applies to you.

Google Play Billing (purchases)

If you buy an in-app purchase such as "Remove ads", Google Play processes the payment. We never see your card or payment details. The app receives a purchase record to confirm the purchase and keeps it on your device. Google's privacy policy applies to your purchase.

Google Analytics for Firebase (how an app is used)

Some apps count events such as features used or puzzles completed, so we can improve them. Analytics uses an app instance identifier and an approximate location from your IP address. Our apps never send names, emails, your documents, puzzle answers, prices you enter or anything you type, and they do not send the advertising ID to analytics. Where consent is required, analytics stays off unless you agree; elsewhere you can turn it off in the app's Settings. We keep analytics event data for 2 months.

Firebase Crashlytics (fixing crashes)

If an app crashes, Crashlytics may send a crash report with the error details, device model, Android version, app version and an installation identifier, so we can fix the problem. We keep crash reports for 90 days. Each app's section says whether crash reporting is used and how to turn it off.

Firebase Remote Config

Lets an app download settings (such as reward amounts or how often ads appear) without an app update. It uses an installation identifier and basic device information such as country, language and Android version.

Google Play services and the Play Store

Some apps use Google Play features such as in-app updates, in-app reviews, Google Play Games sign-in and leaderboards, and Google ML Kit. These run through Google Play services or the Play Store app on your phone and are covered by Google's privacy policy. Any review you write is posted publicly on Google Play under your Google account.

A3. Why we use information

  • To run each app and its optional features, such as leaderboards, reminders and purchases.
  • To find and fix crashes and problems.
  • To understand how the apps are used and improve them.
  • To show ads that keep the apps free, and to prevent ad fraud.
  • To confirm purchases.

We collect only what is needed for these purposes (Privacy Act 2020, Information Privacy Principle 1) and tell you about it in this policy (IPP 3).

A4. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom

Friendly IT Solutions Limited is the controller for our apps. Personalised advertising and, where required, analytics rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in the app's Settings. Non-personalised ads, crash reporting, fraud prevention and replying to your emails rely on our legitimate interests in funding free apps, keeping them working and supporting users. Purchases rely on performance of a contract. Google acts as an independent controller for some advertising processing; see Google's business data responsibility site. You have the right to access, correct, erase or restrict your information, to object, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

A5. Where information is stored

Google processes the information described above on its servers, including in the United States, under its own privacy terms and safeguards. We use these services because they protect information in a way comparable to the New Zealand Privacy Act (IPP 12). We share information only as described in this policy, and may disclose it if required by law.

A6. Children and teens

Our apps are not directed at children under 13 (or the higher minimum age that applies in your country). Each app's section gives its intended audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe a child under 13 has used one of our apps, contact us and we will help.

A7. Accessing, correcting or deleting your information

You can ask us for access to, or correction or deletion of, your personal information by emailing admin@friendlyit.co.nz (Privacy Act 2020, IPPs 6 and 7). Because our apps have no accounts and we hold no names or contact details, we usually cannot link information to you personally. When you contact us, we will explain what we can do, help with information held by Google where we can, and point you to Google's own tools, such as your Google account's data and privacy settings. Uninstalling an app, or using its in-app delete option described in Part B, removes the data stored on your phone.

Advertising ID: you can reset or delete it in your phone's settings (usually Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Settings → Google → Ads; the path varies by device).

A8. Emails you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to reply and to improve our apps, keep it in our business mailbox, and delete it when it is no longer needed. Please don't send documents containing personal information unless we ask for a specific file to fix a problem.

A9. Security

App data is kept in each app's private storage, which other apps cannot read on a standard Android phone. Information sent by Google's services is encrypted in transit. We don't run servers that store your app data. Keep your phone's screen lock on, because anyone who can unlock your phone can open your apps.

A10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. When we add an app or a new service to an app, we update that app's section before the update is released. Significant changes are also noted in the app's release notes or store listing.

Part B — App by app

B1. Scangrin: Offline PDF Scanner

Package nz.co.friendlyit.scanwren  ·  Intended audience: adults  ·  Account: none

Stays on your phone: scanned page images, imported photos and PDFs, text recognised from your pages and the search index, saved signatures (up to 3), folders, document names and settings. Passwords you type to protect or open a PDF are used on your phone and never sent anywhere. PDFs, images and text files you save or share go to the folder or app you choose, and that app or service's own terms apply from there.

Scanning and text recognition: Scangrin uses Google ML Kit's Document Scanner and Text Recognition, delivered through Google Play services. Scanning and text recognition run on your device; your images and text are not sent to Google. Google states that ML Kit may send limited technical information (such as device and app information, performance metrics and error codes) for diagnostics and usage analytics; this does not include your images or text. See ML Kit's data disclosure.

Services used:

  • Google AdMob and the consent message, in the free version only: a short ad after some saves and exports, never more than one every few minutes, and never while you scan.
  • Optional rewarded ads, in the free version only: if you choose to watch one, ads switch off for 24 hours. A rewarded ad plays only after you tap the button that names the reward. The ad-free time is stored only on your phone.
  • Firebase Analytics: counts of actions such as scans and exports completed, with fixed values such as the file format or a page-count range, plus ads shown and the revenue they earn, and Remove ads purchases (product and price). It never includes your documents, recognised text, file names or folder names. Google Signals is off, and we do not set a user ID.
  • Firebase Remote Config: lets us adjust how often ads appear and whether the rewarded offer is available. It runs whether or not usage statistics are on, sends no usage events and none of your content.
  • Firebase Crashlytics, only if you turn on Settings → Send crash reports. It is off until you turn it on, and switching it off stops reports straight away.
  • Google Play Billing for "Remove ads". After the purchase, the app no longer loads the ads software or the consent message.
  • Google Play in-app reviews and updates.

Your choices: Settings → Share usage statistics. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, usage statistics follow your choices in the consent message unless you set this switch yourself; elsewhere they are on unless you turn them off. Your own choice always wins, and turning the switch off stops collection and resets the analytics identifier. Also Settings → Send crash reports and Settings → Ad privacy choices (where the consent message applies to you).

Backups and deleting: Android's automatic cloud backup is set to leave out your documents and recognised text; at most some settings may be backed up. A direct phone-to-phone transfer can copy your library to a new phone. The app's own "Back up everything" creates a file you save wherever you choose. Deleted documents go to "Recently deleted" and are removed permanently after 30 days or when you empty it. Uninstalling removes everything in the app's storage.

B2. Daily Word Search: Word Puzzle

Package nz.co.friendlyit.dailywordsearch  ·  Intended audience: ages 13 and over  ·  Account: none (Google Play Games sign-in is optional)

Stays on your phone: puzzles in progress, completed puzzles, XP, level, stars, streaks, missions, unlocked looks, statistics and settings. Daily reminders, if you turn them on, are scheduled on your phone and no reminder information leaves it. If you use Android's backup to your Google account, Android may back up this game data with your phone.

Services used:

  • Google AdMob and the consent message: occasional full-screen ads between puzzles, and optional videos you can choose to watch for a hint or double XP. No banner ads. Ads are limited to content suitable for general audiences (rated G).
  • Firebase Analytics: game events such as puzzles started and completed, XP earned and whether an ad was shown. The game never sends Play Games names, player IDs, puzzle codes or the advertising ID.
  • Firebase Crashlytics, following the same setting as analytics.
  • Firebase Remote Config, only when analytics is allowed. Remote changes can only make ads less frequent, never more.
  • Google Play Games (optional): if you sign in, your Daily times and XP are posted to the game's leaderboards under your Play Games profile, visible according to your Play Games profile settings. In the game, leaderboard lists show ranks and times only.
  • Google Play Billing for "Remove ads", and Google Play in-app updates.

Your choices: Settings → Share anonymous usage stats (analytics, crash reports and remote settings; in regions that need consent it is off until you agree); Settings → Privacy and ad choices (where shown). Signing in to Play Games is optional and the game works fully without it.

Deleting: Settings → Delete my data removes your progress, stats and achievements from your phone, discards scores not yet posted, and clears the analytics data held for your installation. It keeps your settings and any Remove-ads purchase. Scores already posted stay on Play Games; you can manage or delete your Play Games profile in the Play Games app or your Google account. Uninstalling removes everything. See also how to delete your Daily Word Search data.

B3. Friendly Margin Calculator

Package com.companyname.friendlymargincalculator  ·  Intended audience: adults (business users)  ·  Account: none

Stays on your phone: your tax rate and label, calculation mode and preferences, and up to 50 saved prices (optional name, cost, margin or markup, sell price, tax details and date). Calculations are worked out on your phone and never sent to us or to Google.

Services used:

  • Google AdMob and the consent message: banner and occasional full-screen ads.
  • Firebase Analytics, from version 2.1: counts of features used, with values grouped into ranges. The app never sends amounts, percentages, item names or anything you type, and does not send the advertising ID. It runs only when ad consent allows it, analytics consent has been given where required, and Settings → Share anonymous usage data is on. Versions before 2.1 do not use analytics.

The app does not use crash reporting, accounts or purchases.

Your choices: Settings → Share anonymous usage data (version 2.1 and later); Settings → Privacy settings (where the consent message applies to you).

Deleting: swipe to delete a saved price, or use "Clear all" on the Saved prices screen. Uninstalling removes everything. For analytics data, email us (see A7).
